FRUIT SLASH
Fruit Slash is the fruit-slicing game, the one with the swipe. Fruit gets thrown up from the bottom of the screen, you drag a finger or the mouse through it, and it splits in two with a wet little splash. That's the game, and it's still fun.
Points come from slicing, but the real scores come from combos: get three, four, five pieces of fruit in one swipe and the bonus adds up quickly. Bombs come up mixed in with the fruit. Touch one and the round ends on the spot, so there's a constant tension between swiping wildly for combos and keeping enough control to miss the black ones.
It speeds up the longer you last. At the start you can take your time; a minute in, there are watermelons, oranges and bananas all in the air together and you're mostly reacting. Most rounds end because you got greedy, not because the game cheated you.
It's at its best on a touchscreen, where the swipe feels natural, but it's perfectly playable with a mouse. No app to download, nothing to sign up for.
